Eight Grade, is a film that gives an inside look at what it is like to grow up in this generation. It features a girl who is struggling to fit in and just wants to be like everyone else. In the first 2 minutes you see her watching a beauty tutorial and putting on makeup. A close up shot of her face shows her expressions as she puts on her makeup and a wide shot of her walking into schools shows all of the other kids and what they are wearing, acting like, and how they are looking at her. She seems to be very quiet and introverted by the way she slouches over and keeps her head down when she walks. Also, there is incidental music playing in the background that helps create the mood. This film grossed 13.5 million in box offices and has many great reviews. Sixteen Candles, the 1984 coming of age film has many aspects I would use in my opening scene. In the first 2 minutes you see clips of kids arriving to a high school. You see the different social groups that are depicted by their wardrobe, actions, and the way they are viewed by other people. For example, the mis-en-scene is used when you are shown different outfits worn by the kids like the close ups of the students with their sunglasses. You can tell that fashion and wardrobe choices were important to show who is in what social class. Also, there is a specific over the shoulder shot of a student trying to unlock their locker. After multiple attempts and great frustration he finally gets it but you can assume that they might be a freshman or new to the school. For this movie, the budget was 6.5 million but they made 23.7 in box offices. The movie Love, Simon is a coming of age movie that depicts the struggles of coming out as gay in America's current society. This film has won awards such as MTV award for best kiss and other Teen Choice Awards. The budget for this was from 10-17 million and they grossed a worldwide total of 66.3 million. This movie uses the concept of home videos in their beginning credits to show the audience that the family is closely related and has good relations with each other. It shows them baking and running around with each other and projects the feeling of warmth and happiness. From the first two minutes, you get to know the main character a little and see his friends and family. The movie it is narrated by the protagonist and it helps him get his thoughts and ideas across to the audience. From this film, I will use examples of the videography and apply them to my own film. In the 1995 film Clueless   it opens with the scene of the main character, Cher, shopping and a bunch of kids as the song Kids in America by Kim Wilde plays. This opening conveys the image of youth and freedom. All the high school kids are joyous and that is the point that we intend to get across in our movie. Also the fashion in this movie is selected very carefully and it has an amazing wardrobe. Many of Cher's outfits have gone down in history as iconic and are frequently recreated. For this film, the budget was 12 million dollars and in theaters they grossed 56 million. Some awards this movie has won are MTV awards and an award from the National Society of Film Critics. As this movie has gone down as a classic there are many shots that project meaning. For example, the close ups of the teens by the pool help show the audience their expression of happiness. From this film, it inspires me with mis-en-scene and how to make my film more interesting. 

In the opening credits of this film it establishes the school where the main character goes and gives a glimpse of what she is like. It hints that she is a little different telling by her hairstyle, jewelry, and bright pink cast on her wrist which also has a hateful message to her mom. For this film the starting budget was and estimated $10,000,000 and so far has grossed 78.2 million dollars. In the beginning portion of the clip there are many different editing techniques used. First off, the sound includes background music that plays into effect what is happening the the scene. You also hear many people praying, talking, and normal things that you would hear at a school. All the kids are dressed in formal uniforms and you can tell it is a religious school by noticing the nuns in their robes and multiple crosses everywhere. My selection for the project would be the film. I chose this because film making is something that I like to adventure out with and experiment with. I consider myself a creative person and due to this I would be able to create this project and put a lot of deep thought into it. An idea that I have been pondering was creating a coming of age film starring a girl who is moving to a new place and it keeps flashing back to old memories of her friends and house. I will work in a group with one other person. She came up with the basic story line and I added some parts. Also, I will be in charge of some things like soundtrack and wardrobe and filming and she is in charge of things like casting and writing the story. I am very excited to partake in this project and I have many ideas that will make it an excellent film.

For the Media Studies project I would most likely take part in the film assignment. From watching the  Inside Story  edition on  Ferris Bueller's Day Off  I learned a lot about how a film is made such as casting, editing, location shooting problems and how to fix them, and many other things that contribute to film making. Some of my attributes that would play into the making of a film would be my photography experience and good directing skills. I consider myself a leader but I also try to communicate with my peers to see what they are wanting and what their ideas are as well. With photography, I have taken classes so I know how to manage lighting, angles, and editing to achieve a certain mood and theme. In addition, I like to express myself and portray my ideas on screen but a challenge might be managing time to go out and be able to shoot scenes with people. This project seems very interesting and I feel that I could potentially learn a lot from it.

For the AICE Media Studies project, the option of the magazine has many different positive aspects to it. First off, writing is very interesting to me and I have been able to achieve exceptional grades on my work. Fictional writing and journalism writings always inspire me, and I love to take part in interviews and write stories. An idea that would inspire me would be doing a travel magazine or fashion magazine. In this way, I could write about some topics that interest me along with styles of writing that I enjoy. Also, I would like this project due to the photography used in it. I have taken photography classes and enjoy being able to express my views of the world in the form of a picture.  While this project sounds fun, I feel it would be hard to write and article that hasn't already been written. For example, if you do a travel magazine you would have to make your excerpt very original and unique. The Media Studies magazine sounds very fascinating to work on even though it has ...
