Film Genre Research~ Eighth Grade

Image result for eighth grade reviews

Eight Grade, is a film that gives an inside look at what it is like to grow up in this generation. It features a girl who is struggling to fit in and just wants to be like everyone else. In the first 2 minutes you see her watching a beauty tutorial and putting on makeup. A close up shot of her face shows her expressions as she puts on her makeup and a wide shot of her walking into schools shows all of the other kids and what they are wearing, acting like, and how they are looking at her. She seems to be very quiet and introverted by the way she slouches over and keeps her head down when she walks. Also, there is incidental music playing in the background that helps create the mood. This film grossed 13.5 million in box offices and has many great reviews. For example it was given a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and Wall Street Journal and Washington Post both gave very positive reviews. The opening credits show the main actors, director, and many other important jobs. This film will help me with how to create shots that will help get to know my main character.
