Creative Critical Reflection 1.

1.  Our film Beau tests conventions in a few specific ways. When creating a product it is important to use and test conventions because it creates originality as well as shows representation in social groups. Representation increases popularity due to the people being represented feeling excited for getting to see people like them. For example, the film Black Panther shows representation in the Black community. With a mostly all black cast and crew this film broke racial barriers and inspired many young kids and gave them a hero that they could relate to.

In terms of our film, it shows the struggle of being a teenager and having to move away from all of your friends, family, and community. Beau is a girl who's dad gets a job somewhere else and is forced to move with him but doesn't want to and isn't excited. She goes through her last days in her hometown reminiscing good times she's had with some of her best friends. But this is also a way that she is learning how to cope with the sadness of moving away. This film shows kids that it is ok to be sad that you have to leave your home but there are great and new opportunities wherever you go.

Another example of the use of conventions that is more directly seen in the opening in some specific camera shots that we use. For example we use an example of shot reverse shot between Olly and Beau in the car dancing. With this shot we can identify the emotions of both characters and show how happy they are to be with each other. There is also an insert shot of Beau's dad moving boxes. With this shot you can infer that they are moving and it shows them emptying out their house. These shots help the audience identify moods and themes occurring during the film. This is important because with a variety of shots it also makes the movie more interesting and fun to watch. While watching a movie, a person would not want to see the same shot, angles, and movement every second. So with a variety it helps captivate the audience while also showing what is going on during that specific scene.

Sixteen Candles, the 1984 coming of age film has many aspects I would use in my opening scene. In the first 2 minutes you see clips of kids arriving to a high school. You see the different social groups that are depicted by their wardrobe, actions, and the way they are viewed by other people. For example, the mis-en-scene is used when you are shown different outfits worn by the kids like the close ups of the students with their sunglasses. You can tell that fashion and wardrobe choices were important to show who is in what social class. Also, there is a specific over the shoulder shot of a student trying to unlock their locker. After multiple attempts and great frustration he finally gets it but you can assume that they might be a freshman or new to the school. Use of Conventions

Our film entitled Beau has a few certain ways that it tested conventions. While filming we tried to incorporate as many different camera shots in it to make it interesting as well as different sound effects. For example with the tracking shot go Beau's dad carrying the box it signifies that the girl is leaving her house and shows that they are loading their stuff into the truck. We also used a mid-shot when Olly and Beau are talking and watching the sunset. This shows what is happening as well as the moods on the two kids faces while they are saying they will miss each other. For the sound aspect we used birds sound effects in the beginning to represent a peaceful mood as well as the song Aint' No Mountain High Enough  by Marvin Gaye to represent Beau reminiscing on the good times she had with her friend. Marketing Plan

For the film Beau  my partner and I have come up with multiple ways to market our film. With our target audience being teen girls in middle or high school we came up with ways that will help get the word out about our movie. Many teens spend a good portion of their day on heir phone looking through Snapchat, Instagram, and other social media platforms. Because of this ads and certain aspects that companies use help younger viewers recognize that product that they produced. The first way in which my partner and I are marketing our film is teaming up with snap chat to create a filter to promote our movie. A lens is an interactive filter you can put on a picture and some of them have mask-like features while some are like little games. For example, the Netflix Original To All the Boys I've Loved Before used Snapchat as a platform to market their movie.
